Senior Photography Session – Seattle Prep

Senior Photography Session – Seattle Prep

Even in Winter- Outdoor Photography Can Be Beautiful

While I finish up my edits on this Senior Photography Session,  I’m enjoying the warm spring weather and amazing sunshine streaming through my windows. (Not great for color matching though.)   It makes me all the more grateful for clients like W. that choose to schedule their session in less than optimal winter conditions.  You roll the dice when scheduling an outdoor Senior Photography Session anytime from November through March in the fickle Northwest.  You might luckily avoid  downpours and freezing weather, but to actually have the sun shining for longer than 15 minutes might feel like a small miracle. Well someone obviously said their prayers (or the convergence zones were mingling in the great white north) because not only did we have gorgeous sunshine, it was also slightly warmer than usual and the streets were deserted for many clean backgrounds.

These images really sang with the gorgeous natural lighting, and the fabulous W.’ great energy and enthusiasm for having fun with the process.  Although I often photograph a senior portrait in the Seattle area in the spring of their junior year or over the summer transitioning into senior year, we had the luxury of photographing W. in the winter of her senior year as her high school did not have a stringent yearbook requirement/deadline.  And because I didn’t have the restriction of  yearbook vertical format that afforded us the ability to be more creative with our composition and shots.  Without that kind of restriction we were able to shoot wider and pulled back more to show the environment.  I usually do this anyways on a session, but without the yearbook restriction, it allowed even that much more variety for W.’s session.

The session started out in the urban areas of Seattle which is always great for optimal lighting whether sunny or shady.  There is a lot of variety in this kind of landscape and we had a blast creating images here. We moved around to several different spots depending on the outfits that W. had or the way the light was reacting as the afternoon progressed.  After we had a great set of senior portraits in this urban location we moved onto West Seattle for some more senior photography.  Love the beach locations at sunset and we had some great candid images with her Mom too at the end.

Thanks W. & M.  can’t wait to finish your senior announcement card.
