It’s nice when your assistant doubles as a model when you’re testing your lighting. It’s always important before I get everyone together in the family session to get my lighting squared away so we can shoot as quickly as possible and then move on to the next setup. This is vitally important when you’ve got young ones with very short attention spans. I often work with an assistant that helps with this and she/he is instrumental in making a smooth session, acting not only as a grip, but an entertainer, packer for my equipment, right hand brain, as well as a stand-in model.
Ms. B. has been working with me over the years, and although she’s entering her final year of college, she was still able to help out on this recent Bellevue Family portrait Session. She was so helpful in keeping my softbox from blowing away as well as cueing me on the light changes and setups. Love the way this little shot turned out. Can’t resist going back into my black and white film days and adjusting this image.
